OPEN NOW: This is Gender – Law and Justice Photography Competition

Enter now

Global 50/50 invites photographers from around the world to enter This is Gender, the world’s largest competition focused on gender.

Deadline for submissions: Tuesday 22nd July 2025

We’re looking for powerful visual stories that reveal how gender shapes and is shaped by legal systems, across courtrooms and communities, through written laws and unwritten rules. From state violence to everyday resistance, from exclusion to transformation, show us through your lens how justice is lived, denied, and reimagined.

This is a call to expose injustice, illuminate hope, and imagine gender-equal futures. Whether you’re capturing defiance, dignity, discrimination or change, this is your platform to showcase untold stories to the world.

How to enter

Submit your image along with a few details – where it was created, a bit about yourself, the story behind the image, and how it connects to the theme. You can submit up to five individual submissions.

The competition is divided into five sub-categories:

  • Institutions: Who gets access to justice, and who is denied?
  • Spaces: Where does justice unfold: streets, courts, refugee camps?
  • Social norms: How is power enforced – or resisted – in families and communities?
  • Embodied experience: What does it mean to carry the weight of the law?
  • Radical futures: What could justice look like in a truly equal world?

Join the movement

This is Gender is building a global community for conversation and change.

Globally, we are seeing gender being politicised and weaponised – used to divide, exclude and undermine progress. This is Gender: Law and Justice is a space to visualise and reclaim gender justice.

Photography becomes both testimony and resistance, capturing the tension between power and protest, between law and lived experience.
