Holding organisations accountable for gender justice

Global 50/50 works to advance gender justice, fairness and equity by generating rigorous evidence on the workplace. We champion women’s and feminist leadership by holding organisations accountable and promoting environments where all people can thrive and lead.

What we do

Institutions shape the world’s health and justice through what they fund, who they hire, whose needs they design for, and who leads them. How an institution operationalises gender, and who sits at the top, determines whether it brings an equity lens to everything it does. Across global health, and now law and justice, we assess hundreds of organisations against consistent, evidence-informed standards: public comments, workplace policies, leadership demographics, and monitoring. We turn that evidence into open data, analysis and practical tools – from indices and dashboards to self-assessments and workplace policy repositories – that advocates can use to press for change and that leaders can take forward inside their own organisations.

Global 50/50 has established itself as the world’s leading authority on gender equality in global health… By putting its data in the public domain, GH5050 provides a mechanism through which to hold these organisations accountable for their progress on gender equality. In so doing, GH5050 provides a unique vehicle to reinforce the operationalisation of the right to health.

Why this matters

Since 2018 we have tracked what global health organisations publish on gender equality, using the same criteria every year. In 2025, for the first time we recorded measurable regression across every core variable we track: fewer public commitments, less sex-disaggregated data, gender equality language no longer present in policies where it had been. In 2026 some of that ground has been regained, unevenly, and every variable still sits at or below its 2024 level.

Independent, consistent measurement is what makes that reversal and recovery visible and actionable. Where organisations retreat from gender equality, this programme of work aims to document it, hold the line on the standards, and keep the evidence in front of the people with the power to act.

Learn more about how Global 50/50 works to hold organisations accountable for gender justice.

Global Health 50/50

Global 50/50’s annual report and Gender and Health Index are the global benchmark to hold organisations to account on gender justice. We unite evidence with practical resources, direct engagement with leaders, and movement-building to drive change.

Global Justice 50/50

Global Justice 50/50 examines gender equality in leadership, policy, and institutional practice across 171 organisations that uphold justice and the rule of law. We unite evidence with practical resources, direct engagement with leaders, and movement-building to drive change.

Closing the gender and ethnicity pay gaps

The gender pay gap is one of the clearest, most measurable signs of unequal power at work. Global 50/50 analyses pay gap data across organisations while making the case for why and how to close the gaps.

Gender justice for planetary health

As Earth’s natural systems deteriorate, frontline communities bear the brunt, often excluded from solutions. This research delves into whether critical gender considerations shape global responses to planetary health crises, alongside a dedicated This is Gender collection.

Gender and Health 50/50 Nepal

In partnership with the Center for Research on Environment Health and Population Activities, this initiative assessed the workplace policies of organisations active in gender and health in Nepal, accompanied by a dedicated This is Gender collection.

Use the data

Global 50/50 generates rigorous, comparable data on gender, health and power. We provide interactive tools and open-access dashboards and indices so that researchers, advocates and decision-makers can explore, analyse and act on the data.

The index serves as an important tool, showcasing the use of data to drive structural change, advance action, and hold global health organisations accountable for creating more inclusive and equitable workplaces.

How our work fits together

How an institution operationalises gender – and who leads it – shapes whether it brings an equity lens to everything it does. That, in turn, shapes gender and health outcomes for people worldwide. Our three programmes follow this logic: we hold organisations to account for how they define, resource and lead on gender; we track how those choices shape gender and health outcomes; and we drive the movement that sustains the pressure, accountability and cross-sector expertise this demands – never more so than in a moment of rising backlash.
