Applications Open: This Is Gender’s Regional Curatorial Fellowship

Photography is an act of power and so is curation.

The images that circulate globally shape how gender, power and social realities are understood. They influence public debate, cultural memory, research, advocacy and policy. For six competition cycles, This is Gender, Global 50/50’s visual storytelling initiative, has worked to ensure those images reflect the full breadth of lived experience across the world. But the communities, cultural contexts and visual practices that should inform these narratives have too often remained underrepresented in the rooms where images are selected, interpreted and circulated.

This is Gender’s inaugural Regional Curatorial Fellows Programme exists to help shift that.

For the first time, we are embedding regional curators directly within the heart of our global photography competition. Fellows will review submissions, shape curatorial decisions, and contribute to exhibitions, editorial outputs and digital storytelling projects alongside international judges. The programme is designed for curators, critics, writers, researchers, artistic directors, photographers and cultural practitioners from global majority countries and historically underrepresented communities, including across Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, Oceania and diasporic communities worldwide. Early-career practitioners and recent graduates are strongly encouraged to apply. No formal curatorial title is required.

The fellowship runs for seven months from October 2026, is part-time and flexible, and carries a stipend of up to £3,000.
